"interconnectivity"

interconnectivity is a project that began at the end of 2007. it began with one sheet of paper that was then torn apart into seperate pieces. i then used the pages like a book, and wrote a poem. afterwards i drew a little drawing on each page. next, i used a needle and thread to bind the pages back together. the final stage of the process was to cut the thread that was holding each of the pages next to one another.

in the most recent stage of interconnectivity i mailed out the pieces to 18 friends. i asked each of each person to take a photo of the drawing. responses are still coming through.

this project is about the small threads that hold us together and then tear us apart, and how our connections are realized in a very cyclical nature.

"scrolls"

this installation began with an invitation from a friend to show art work. the theme of her evening event was to invite change and to celebrate the beginning of a new year. i posit that change is evoked through is through movement and stillness. to represent this concept, i hand bound 40 scrolls of multiple sizes, dyed the pages, and covered them with fabric. i strung the parts together with yarn to make a unified piece. it hung from the ceiling. when a person walks past the piece, it sways. when no one is near the piece, it remains still, but potential energy continues. this is how interaction brings it to life or leaves it to lie. i believe it reflects our our desire to make something/anything move in the world.

"cuando callas - manifesto"

cuando callas (gus gavino and rose candela) created 24 books as a manifesto. the books contain drawings, photography, and artifacts of our everyday experiences. the layout is identical from book to book, but the covers are individual through silk screening. also each of the pages are bound together through sewing.
